Credit Card and Refund Processes
When You Place Your Order
When you submit an order online, your credit card is pre-authorized, not charged. A pre-authorization is a temporary hold that confirms your bank has enough available funds. Most banks display this as a PENDING transaction.
Once your entire order ships, we capture (charge) the final total. After the charge goes through, the original pending hold is removed by your bank; typically within 1-3 business days, depending on their policies.
When You Modify Your Order (Different Dollar Amount)
If you update or remove items before your order ships, you are only charged for the items that actually ship.
Example:
If you place a $300 order and cancel $100 of it, we will release the original $300 pending hold. When the order ships, your card will be charged $200, the amount of the shipped items.
We also cannot charge more than the original pre-authorization amount. If your changes increase the cost of your order beyond the initial total, we will either need to:
- Cancel and re-place the order with a new authorization, or
- Send you a separate invoice for the additional amount depending on the changes required.
Your bank will clear the original pending amount within 1-3 business days.
When You Cancel Your Entire Order
If your full order is canceled before it ships, we void the pre-authorization. A VOID simply removes the pending hold; it is not a refund, because your card was never actually charged.
Once the void is processed, the pending authorization disappears from your account. Most banks clear it within 1-3 business days.
A Few Things to Know
- Banks may use different terms such as authorization, pending charge, or temporary hold.
- Some banks take slightly longer than 3 days to clear pending transactions—this timing is fully controlled by your financial institution.
- You will only see an actual refund/credit on your statement if a charge was completed and then reversed (which does not happen with pre-authorization voids).
